One critically injured, Egerton night demos over insecurity

Egerton University students are on rampage after a fourth year female medical student was attacked by an unknown individual(s) armed with a machete in the school hostel.

The student has critically sustained head and hand injuries and was rushed to the hospital following the incident that occurred in Tatton Hostels at around 8pm April, 7.

In retaliation to the incident, angry students staged a night demonstration to protest a series of rising cases of insecurity in and around the Njoro based institution. 

A section of a hostel and the main gate leading to the university has been set ablaze, with students matching out in numbers to condemn the incident. 

According to some students, they alleged that this is not the first time that elements of insecurity has been witnessed in the same hostel following a sequence of 3 students’ stabbings incidents within the school premises. 

The students' body is now calling on to the security apparatus to up their game in tackling the insecurity menace in and around the institution.

The Egerton incident comes days after students at Maseno University demonstrated following the murder of a third year student near Maseno Police Station and his motorbike stolen on Thursday night April, 4.
